PRACTICAL STEPS TO TRUST GOD
TRUSTING GOD – STEP 1: Decide
to Fight.
“I am not going to worry.”
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV)
“I am not going to worry.”

Question: Have you ever said something like this? If so, how often
do you say this?
----------------
“I will sharpen my skill with the sword.”
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, (Ephesians 6:13-18, ESV)
TRUSTING
GOD – STEP 2: Constantly Monitor your Thoughts and Feelings.
“I will train myself to capture the negative
thoughts and feelings.”
“I will train
myself to detect negative thought and feelings.”
4 For
the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine
power to destroy strongholds. 5 We
destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of
God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your
obedience is complete.
(2 Corinthians 10:4-6, ESV)
Question: Do you intentionally monitor your
thoughts and feelings? If so, do you recognize them immediately? Either way,
what do you normally do when you realize that you are down and depressed?

TRUSTING GOD – STEP 3: Prepare
for an Attack.
We learned that the Bible metaphorically refers to itself
as a sword, and it is the weapon we use to defend ourselves when negative
thoughts and emotions attack us.
Question: I hope you are reading and studying
your Bible daily or at least weekly; because, we all struggle with this from
time-to-time…even Pastor Derrick. What keeps you from reading the Bible? Do you
make it a priority or is there some other challenge that keeps you from
studying it?

TRUSTING GOD – STEP 4: Replace
Negative Thoughts and Feelings.
“I will replace my negative thoughts and feelings with
God’s promises.”
26 But
the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my
name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all
that I have said to you. (John
14:26, ESV)
Question: Have you ever detected negative
thoughts and emotions and replaced it with a promise from God? If so, which is
your favorite verse to use? What are some other promises from the Bible that we
could say help us trust God?
